Happy Presidents Weekend

This picture wasn't part of our weekend activities but is SOOOO adorable that I just had to share. Jason let Clair try on his glasses. Clair of course thought she was the coolest and most grown up baby ever and gave me the cutest smile. (it kind of reminds me of a little mouse with her front teeth showing). And I don't know why she is wearing socks on her hands...Saturday we went to Napa, CA and went hiking and walked around a beautiful German winery. I didn't know Napa was a wine town. It was so beautiful to drive through all the hills covered with the vineyards and to drive past all the beautiful buildings built to process the grapes. This one was our favorite and that is why we stopped and walked around.
Our hike was amazing. It had been raining a lot and so the hike Jason really wanted to do was flooded and really muddy... but it was still stunning and so peaceful.

There were so many different kinds of trees. The red bark tree and the weird shaped moss covered trees were our favorite to look at.
Sunday night we drove to Santa Clara where I have cousins doing an internship. We attempted to roast marshmallows in the fire place outside their apartments. Clair's favorite part was laying on her belly and sticking her fingers into the warm hot tub and swimming pool.
On Monday we went to Point Lobo. We tried to get there to enjoy the tide pools but we were a little late. We still found some amazing things. Some of those things included finding star fish, crabs, fish, muscles, sighting whales, otters, and Clair favorite- birds. We really did see whales!!! it was amazing and so super lucky. We saw the spray in the middle of the deep blue and then a black tail come up out of the water and back in. We were in awe. Jason and Brady (my cousin's husband) were like little boys climbing all over the rocks.

Our cousins had passes to the monterey bay aquarium so we snatched the opportunity and used their tickets to end our trip of the ocean with the aquarium. Clair loves the fish and we were really impressed with how the place was set up. There was even a play area for infants and toddlers where they were able to roll around on a waterbed type thing and feel the waves, play with play fish in water, etc. It was amazing an we learned some pretty amazing things.

I didn't know that the gender of sea turtles were determined by the temperature of the incubation of the eggs! If the sand is a warm temperature then the batch will come out pretty even of male and female but if it is too cold or too hot then there will be majority of one or the other!

Now we are back to another week. Time to do laundry, clean house, and make dinner. The gospel is true!
