I got an idea reading a blog to take my kids on individual dates. We tried it this week...
First we dropped Caleb off at his friend's house. Clair and I then went to the Butterfly Museum.
It was SO MUCH FUN!
Granted, we didn't stay long enough for me to feel like we got our "money's worth" it was still amazing to only have one child and do an activity out of the norm that made me remember to really focus on her.
I handed over my phone and she grandly took the lead in our tour and took lots of pictures. Most of the pictures were of random items... like the rotten food that the butterflies eat. Not many were of actual butterflies but that wasn't REALLY the point, right :)
Here are a couple of her pictures...
(this one I took of us first entering the butterfly house)
We then picked Caleb up and went home for nap/quiet time. After that we dropped Clair off at her friend's house.
Caleb and I then went and enjoyed watching the animals at Pet Smart. We also had fun fighting monsters in the van while we parked at Sonic and ate some ice cream. Again it was amazing to stop and only have one child to pay attention to.
This is my goal to keep up... maybe not weekly. But I hope that through making this effort I can make that connection with my children that I will need to have with them to get through their little bit older years. I hope!
