Our Surprise

It all started two days ago when I found some droppings. We didn't really think that there were really mice and as we searched the house we were even more confused. There was nothing chewed on and there were no more droppings that we could see.

Last night we came home and Jason when to unload his stuff in our spare bedroom. He called for me to bring a cup with something or a box with a lid that he had heard a squeak. We searched the room and finally heard it again under the couch. Jason pulled the couch away to reveal this:

The little mouse had gotten itself stuck in our spider trap. It is sad that they are so cute with their beady eyes. They wouldn't be so bad if they weren't so dirty and destructive. So we took this guy out and went out to our living room to sit on our couch and talk. As we were sitting there we saw a streak of grey jump across the doorway of the second bedroom. Ugh more! We quickly went and shut the door we heard it in the closet and made a barricade across the closet door to try and trap it. Thus this movie...

Well just when we thought we got it it found a hole in our barricade and in a flash it was gone. I say a flash because our eyes barley registered that it had gone by. We guessed it went under the couch so we quickly emptied the room of everything except our desk. We lifted the couch up on its side to see if we could hear it in the couch. We found a hole in the bottom where the could get in. We then heard chirping and scuffles IN THE WALL!!! the only outlet that the cover won't fit on had been behind our couch and the mouse had gone into the hole! We didn't want to trap it in there because if it died our whole house would stink really bad. We decided to set out a spider trap with food on it to lure it out. Jason set one out right under the hole and one by the couch. Later we found it trapped in the trap. The trap by the hole had been pushed away from the wall and it was in the one by the couch. We set the traps again and went to bed. We slept well last night considering all the excitement. When we woke up Jason found two trapped in one of the traps. There must be a nest somewhere.
We went to the temple, which was much needed. I felt so dirty in our house and even though I was so hungry I didn't want to get the food out because the counters and everything felt dirty and gross. It didn't help that we had to tear everything out of the bedroom and into our living room to find the mouse. So I felt both cluttered and dirty After the temple we went to get disinfectant for me and door guards and more traps to fix up our house. After Jason fixed a couple sneak holes under a door and set more traps he left for work. I was working on a project at the kitchen table. The second bedroom door was closed and we hoped that had trapped the mice. Suddenly I saw a flash of grey out of the corner of my eye! Now they are in the main part of the house- frustrating! We think they are getting through a hole in the bathroom that could lead around to the second bedroom.
It is good that this is happening now... our house has been smelling musty for a while and I could never seem to make it leave, now I know where it has been coming from. The second bedroom was also where we were starting to put our nursery together... I am glad we found the mice and are going to be able to fix the problem before the baby comes. Although I really wish we didn't have to worry about mice at all.

We caught a mouse at our place at Madison Park on a sticky trap. It was such a sad little thing. I hope you can catch them all!
