More pics from our trip to the Redwoods

Sorry this has taken me so long to update!  Here are more pictures of our adventures in the Redwood Forest.

Redwood Trivia:  A Redwood tree's bark is fireproof and bug resistant.  However because of all the undercover there are a lot of fires which will eventually find holes in the bark and hollow out the tree.  The neat thing is a Redwood tree can be completely hollowed out and still live!!!  That is why they live so long... usually they die from falling over before they die of old age.
Redwood Trivia:  A Redwood root system is actually very small and pretty close to the surface.  They can grow really strong and tall from lacing their roots with the surrounding trees to make a secure net to hold themselves up.

Jason enjoyed commanding the waves like Mickey Mouse in Fantasia
Can you see the cyclopes holding Jason in his fists?

Jason's favorite pictures are when he can capture light through leaves or branches of trees.

Redwood Trivia:  Redwood trees produce thousands and thousands of seeds.  Only 90% ever make it to the ground and out of the 10% that do very very few ever survive to maturity.  Most Redwood trees that do survive grow from the strength and protection of a parent tree.  The Parent tree will grow a knob on the side of itself where a young tree will sprout.  Even after the old tree is dead and gone the young tree will still gain strength from it's parent tree's root system.

Yes, a Big-foot museum...  Too bad January is considered off season so it wasn't open :)
This picture was taken from a very very talented Jason who stood in the middle of the road with his camera late at night and left the exposer on his camera open for almost a minuet to make it look like day time.
This is one I took of him standing in the road... Good thing the traffic wasn't busy :)
