CHRISTMAS

Christmas is a special time of year.

This year I learned that christmas is a celebration of Christ's life, not only of his birth.  It is because of what he did for us that his being born into the world is worth celebrating.  An article from the Church News a few years back wrote that there are three levels of Christmas.  1st the "Santa Clause" level.  This level is where we go caroling, we give and get presents, we eat too much, and we decorate with trees, lights, and stockings.  The second level is the "Silent Night" level.  At this level we celebrate the birth of Christ.  We sing hymns, we read the story.  We talk of the star and of angels.  Both of these levels of Christmas are good and needed for this special time of year.  But they can't last.  Soon we have to open the presents and throw away the wrapping.  We also can't sing Silent Night the whole year long.  No, these two levels are very special but they can't last.  The only level that can last the whole year round is the third level.  This level is the "Adult Christ" level.  Through his example we learn how to love our neighbor.  It is by loving our neighbor and becoming like Christ that we can keep the spirit of Christmas in our lives for the whole year round.

I know our Savior lives.  He lives, and because he lives we have joy.  I know that there is a plan for each and every one of us.  And I know that no matter where we are, no matter what we are doing we have the opportunity and the obligation to be an example and to serve our Heavenly Father's children.  Life is good, real good!
